Lapis Lazuli, or simply Lapis, is a gemstone composed of lazurite and several other minerals. The main deposits are in Afghanistan and Chile and its hardness is 5 to 6. From ancient Egypt to the present, it has been prized as a stone of royalty, decorating the pillars of castles and the throats of queens.
